Sale and operation management for offline stores.

Shinsegae Chicor, Korean version of Sephora, offering a curated range of cosmetics products from home and abroad. Starting with an offline store, it is now offering online, services with the same quality to its numerous customers.

The Challenge

The need for an e-commerce system that integrates online and offline product purchases.
At present, Chicor only runs offline stores, limiting the time during which customers can purchase products. Expanding offline stores would cost time and money.

As such, it wanted to offer customers more purchase opportunities by establishing an integrated offline-online e-commerce system, it has covered the front-end work such as warehousing, display, sales, payment, shipping of products and settlement.
In addition, it wanted to analyze the purchase pattern of customers for use in marketing services such as personalized recommendations or promotional campaigns.


I&C Solution

Shinsegae I&C sought infrastructure consulting to establish a flexible and scalable system environment that allows them to better respond to the fast-changing e-commerce business landscape.

Given the characteristics of the brand that curates products, MSA design and automated distribution processes were applied so that frequent revisions and new work would be carried out without any stops. After the launch of the e-commerce site, possible marketing and analysis system features were also recommended, such as those using AWS Pinpoint and Personalize.

Shinsegae I&C took into account the characteristics of e-commerce to ensure prompt response to traffic loads during promotional events or new product launches would be possible.

EKS service was used to apply Pod+Node Auto-Scaling function to the architecture. Kubernetes Istio was used to configure an MSA architecture with high stability and monitoring features.

AWS Code Series were used to establish a Pipelineso that issues in each stage could be registered and verified using Jira. An image-based distribution environment was configured and Blue/Green Deploy method was applied.

The Benefits

Blue/Green Deploy is realized using CI/CD Pipeline to operate about Zero Downtime Deployment.


3rd Party Applications or solutions used

The Chicor E-commerce Project adopted an encryption solution for personal data (Cubeone) to protect customer data. In addition, the firewall application Wapples and IPS/IDS/Anti-Malware solution, Deep Security were applied to minimize any security issues.
